Situated in the old city of Zaria, Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), was founded in the year 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria. Since then this university has grown into the most influential and culturally diverse university, with eighty-two Academic Departments, twelve Faculties, and twelve Research Institutes and Specialized Centres.

They offer both undergraduate and postgraduates programs in specialized fields such as; Agriculture, Public and Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Design, Education, Biological and Physical Sciences, Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Humanities, Law and Social Sciences.
